Coonawarra Walking Trail
Discover the Coonawarra Walking Trail, a relaxed and scenic way to explore our famous wine region. Along the way, you’ll stroll past vineyards, enjoy fresh country air, and visit some of Coonawarra’s finest cellar doors.
Starting in the heart of Coonawarra, the trail links six wineries within an easy 5km circuit. Therefore, it’s the perfect experience for visitors who want to slow down and enjoy wine tasting at their own pace. Each stop along the trail offers its own unique hospitality, wine styles and stories.
At Zema Estate, we welcome walkers to take a break, and sample our handcrafted wines. After your tasting, you can continue on to the next winery. Either way, the trail allows you to explore the region without needing to drive between stops.
For families and groups, the walk is an enjoyable day out. Meanwhile, wine lovers can take advantage of exclusive Cellar Door tastings and local knowledge. The Coonawarra Walking Trail is all about enjoying great wine, great people and the beauty of our landscape – one step at a time.
The six wineries are:
- Redman Wines
- Brand’s Laira Coonawarra
- Ottelia
- LUNCH IN COONAWARRA: Coonawarra Store or Ottelia Restaurant
- Wynns Coonawarra Estate
- DiGiorgio Family Wines
- Zema Estate
If you allow 20 minutes at each winery, the trail should take approximately 3 hours to complete.
You may wish to factor in more time and allow for a lunch stop at Ottelia Restaurant (please book ahead of time) or a pre-ordered picnic basket from the Coonawarra Store to enjoy at one of the wineries.
The six wineries on the trail are all open seven days a week (except some public holidays) and the eateries as advertised. You will be warmly welcomed at all of them for tastings or refreshments.
Follow the green foot signage
Walkers can start the trail at any one of the wineries or Coonawarra Town centre, and simply follow the clearly marked signposts – look out for the smart green ‘foot’ signs to guide you along the way.
We recommend you download the Coonawarra Walking Trail App, prior to commencing the trial. You can then check in to track your progress whilst learning about the amazing history, viticulture and winemaking practices along the way.
What to bring
While the flat walk is plain sailing, even for families with a pram in tow, the trail path is unsealed, so it is recommended you wear some comfortable walking shoes.
