Cabernet Sauvignon (64%), Merlot (22%), Malbec (7%), Cabernet Franc (7%) are blended to deliver a perfectly balanced wine.
This wine was made from fruit that was harvested at its optimum maturity, and then fermented on skins for 10 days under controlled temperatures using a combination of static, pulse air and rotary fermenters. Maturation for 18 months in French Hogshead barrels has assisted in the development of a wine that shows vibrancy and richnes.
Medium bodied with a fruit forward lovely round, juicy palate and lingering soft finish. The Cluny has an aroma of blackberries, cherry and a hint of sarsaparilla.
This wine is drinking well and has good cellaring potential.
"Blend of 64/22/7/7% cabernet sauvignon/merlot/malbec/cab franc. Blackcurrant, dark chocolate, foresty herbs and violet notes make a positive impression. There's a gentle twiggy bitterness to the aftertaste but it neither detracts nor distracts; if anything it adds something extra. Ripe fruit and good overall balance are the order of the day here." 91 points - Campbell Mattinson, Halliday Wine Companion, Published 29 July 2023
Bottle age, balance and breeding aren’t always found in pricey wines, so delivering these qualities in a bottle you can pick up for the price of a couple of schooners is something for which the Zema family should be lauded. Classically Coonawarra, dark berry characters draped over a cedary frame, deft tannins and sustained presence. Make it a cellar staple. 92 points - Nick Ryan, The Weekend Australian, The Drinks Issue - 20 Reds Under 35. November 2024
